Post Traumatic Amnesia and Alcohol Dependence*
Post-traumatic amnesia was found to be prolonged in those who were alcohol dependents prior to the head injury. A comparison with controls who were matched for age and severity of head injury indicated that the PTA in the alcoholics was significantly longer. The pathophysiologic changes in the alcoholic brain that could explain such variations are discussed in the light of recent findings.
متن کاملIntact retention in acute alcohol amnesia.
Research on alcohol amnesia has focused on memory processes that are disrupted during intoxication. The present experiment examined the possibility that certain memory processes might be resistant to the amnesic effects of alcohol. Intoxicated and sober subjects studied a list of 29 words. They were then given one of three different retention tests: free recall, identification of degraded words...

Environmental control of ECS-produced retrograde amnesia in goldfish. PHYSIOL. BEHAV. The retrograde amnestic effect of ECS can be enhanced by exposing the goldfish to the intertrial environment for 25 mm just prior to administration of the ECS. As the interval between training and the ECS is increased, the amnesm produced by the environment-ECS interaction takes longer to develop. The environm...
متن کاملElectrophysiologic Changes Produced by Intravenous Alcohol
The effect of alcohol (.1 mg/kg) on the sinus node and atrioventricular node was studied in 9 mongrel dogs. The sinus node function was evaluated by the sinus node recovery time and the atrioventricular node by the highest atrial pacing rate at which Wenckebach periodicity was developed. The effect was studied for 45 minutes. Three groups were identified: Group I, Low Concentration of Alcohol (...
